Taking a break from the review of my Sephora haul, I’m going to review the KKW Collaboration with Kylie Cosmetics! Before I get into it I do have to make a full disclosure.
I literally cannot stand Kylie Jenner, She drives me crazy.
But, when you have a best friend who’s super into Kylie Jenner, and you yourself like Kim’s taste, the KKW collab seemed to be the perfect gift to express myself while giving her something I knew she would like.
In a previous post, I mentioned that I liked the NARS lip gloss in the shade Chelsea girls and that I only gave that shade a try because I saw Kim with it in a magazine article and fell in love with the color. The four shades in the pack are pretty much all just a VERY slight variation of that shade.
The outer packaging is nice, but I don’t really know how I feel about it. It’s a semi hard cardboard and somehow it just comes off as way too extra (although with Kim Kardashian, I should expect as much). High end products just don’t need that kind of packaging?
Here are the swatches of the shades. Like I said, nearly identical.
The first shade, I tried here is Kimberly. It’s a really light nude, which with my Asian skin tone pretty much washes me out. I’m not a huge fan. I just don’t think this color is warm enough to be flattering on many skin tones. In my mind I can picture my bestie (very fair skin) being more washed out than me. Or just a dark skin tone with a bright white lip. It’s just not a very flattering color in my opinion but perhaps some people like it that light.
The second one is Kim. It’s a little warmer than Kimberly. It’s a shade I think I can wear with a more pastel theme or when I just need a natural nude. In a way Kimberly was a more dramatic nude in my opinion just because of how white it was compared to Kim which is a little more natural.
Third up is Kiki. I like Kiki. It has the most pink in all four shades of the collection. It’s a really pretty natural pink. I personally and not be biggest pink love but I can imagine this color looking good on virtually anyone.
Last up is Kimmie! My absolute favorite shade in this pack. It’s warm, it’s natural, and it’s light enough so that it’s still “cute” glamor but dark enough so that it doesn’t wash out my other features but complements them.
I used the Tarte Tarteist Pro eyeshadow palette today and created his nude/pink/light brown shade to pair with these lip shades. (Side note, if you still haven’t tried the Urban Decay Setting Spray even after people have been raving about it all these years because you think it’s just overhyped? I’m telling you. ITS NOT.) All of these pictures were taken with no touch up at 8pm after leaving my house at 7:30, working all day, and coming home at 7pm. That spray is like super glue for your face.
The packaging was okay but the actual bottle of the lip gloss could have been higher quality. They just didn’t feel high quality in my hands. The brush applicator for each was really scratchy and I felt like I was literally brushing out my lips throughout the application process The “crème lipstick” is more of a creamy lip gloss as well. Colors aren’t as highly pigmented as they show on the website or in any of Kim Kardashian’s Instagram promos. Divided up, it costs approximately $12.50 per shade not including tax. I guess it’s an okay buy? Ideally, it cost maybe $7-8 max per shade it would be a good deal. However for $48 or $45 (I forgot the price), it’s just not worth your money. Unless you’re one of those people who purely buy products to support the celebrity promoting them, I would not recommend this.
If anyone really likes the last shaded I spoke about, Kimmie, I have a dupe for you! The Tarte Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint in the Shade Goals is absolutely amazing. Tarte products are always beautiful, applies incredibly naturally and glides smoothly across your lips. It is more pricy at $20 a tube but trust me, it’s worth it. It’s got the same level of pigment as this collection minus the smearing.
